The one where we move on to May 1940 (and beyond).

Got a notification on the phone that a channel I recently started following on the youtubes had a live broadcast going for a Paint Along session. Well, since I'm never one to say no to that kind of thing I promptly headed up to the paintingtable and started hobbying along with GM Fritz and the rest of the fine folks in the chat at The GM's Alcove. Long story short, it was a pleasant experience and I will for sure try to catch as many liveshows from the channel in the future. Big thanks to Fritz for the shoutouts about this blog. Much appretiated!

On the table for today I still had the 3d-printed Sea Peoples ship that I have been working on for a while now. I got some spur of the moment inspiration while I was waiting for some tires to dry on my Laffly trucks and actually finished the ship and base. It's on a 80*40mm base but will act as the SH/camp in DBA and HOTT. There is still a bit of room on the base for some extra stuff but I think I will leave it as is. Less is more and all that jazz.
In either case it's now in the display cabinet.
And we know what happens with minis we put in the display amrite?

Apart from getting all the french vehicles ready for camo, I actually took the Unic P107 halftracks further. They have the brown camo-splotches I have chosen for the project and are washed with some Agrax. All ready for weathering and a steel sheet on the bottom of the model. I magnetize my storage and have steel on the models, mainly because it doesn't add any bulk/thickness to models either with or without bases. The steelfoil I use is 0.4mm thick, easily cut with scissors and self-adhesive. Works perfect.

One of my pet peeves in wargaming with vehicles is that there is either no people in them or there is always people in them as they drive around acting as troopcarriers. I think I will go ahead and sculpt some basic inserts to pop in and out of the P107s to indicate that there are troops in them or not.
Should be easy enough due to the scale. In the olden days we might have just glued some rice together and shoved in there.

Left to camo and wash are the trucks, a couple staff cars, 2 Renault UE with limbers and 4 Panhard 178's. After that I think I only have one batch of vehicles left before I will call the french army done for the time being. I haven't really checked, but I think that it will round out at about 2K pts in Fistful of Tows 3. Perfect startingpoint for Hannut.

I did a couple of things in between the painting even tho I kinda said to myself that I shouldn't....

First, I ordered a big shipment of MDF bases from Greenstuffworld.
I wanna move away from printing my own bases in resin since they do kinda have their drawbacks. Mostly warping now and again, but I also think I am getting a tad sensitive to working with resin. My skin dries out really fast now handling cured resin. So it might be a good thing to step away from filing and sanding it for starters.
I got the most common 40mm wide ones for upcoming DBx projects.
Then I added a bunch of 60*30mm and 30*30mm for ACW...
.. and 25*25mm for 2mm nappies.

Because of course I have started printing Henry Turners excellent 6mm ACW line in preparation for that project. I will start with the union troops and experiment a bit with speedpaints and so on before doing the confederate army which I wanna do a bit more variety with.

And.. Of course I put in an order at Irregular for french and british 2mm napoleonics armies.
This actually came as a shock for myself aswell as those who know me.
I dunno, something went pop and I decided I didn't want to print the whole project.

But I am getting ahead of myself..

Cheers
/Fred
