The one where I play the first game of Digi-HOTT!

I got an extra treat before bedtime today as Plamen showed up on the messenger as I asked how to resize bases to make everything uniform. He is the guy who asked for TTS plays of HOTT from my last post.
We got on a Discord-call together, and before we knew it we were playing a match even tho it really wasn't the plan from the start.

I used my Gothic Horde (Hero, Behemoth, 2 Beasts, 6 Warband) against his rag-tag team called Vaarg's Maurader's consisting of a Hero,  3 Riders, 3 Blades and 4 Spears.
We diced off and I became the defender.
As we really hadn't planned on playing we kept using the 'Hordes if the things' workshop-DLC which is very barebones in terms of.. Well, everything really.
As such I drew in the terrainfeatures, with the paint-tool, as far as we understood the rules and after he rolled for his table edge, we deployed and got into my first bound.

It's was a super-exiting and even matchup as Plamen is a wargamer of my own heart. We laughed at our bad dicerolls, cursed our poorly performing elements and discussed tactics and good/bad moves thru most bounds. You know, as it should be when playing games.

In the end, the cursed Vaarg and his Maurader's won.
By killling my Stronghold.
As the AP-score was 10-10....

Again, what an awesome experience to finally get the ball rolling in the digital version of HOTT!

Overview of what the DLC contains, plus our respective armies.

I forgot to take screenshots, so this is the only action-footage I have. I believe its around
my 5th-6th bound or so. Eventually his Hero och a surviving Blade on the left flank
would round the impassable mountain and kill the Stronghold.

I'll console myself with the fact that my army was 3D while his was flatbois. It's something.
Off to bed, tomorrow I continue painting the Sea People!

Cheers

  1. Good luck with your Sea Peoples Army!
If you're using DBX, I'd think that would also be easy to do using a gridded board and remote virtual/video (zoom, teams, etc) gaming.

    1. Thanks, gonna take a few to get them painted, atleast as a 400 points DBMM army (which is the goal).
Using grids and video is a great idea!

  2. Oh, and to me TTS is "To the Strongest", a great set of Ancient rules that specifically uses a gridded board. :-)
