The one with week three and four..
.. of the painting-challenge done even tho it´s technically still week 2..
I´m quite enjoying seeing the bottom of the plastic baggie of Gepid (2/71) Wb.
2 elements of Wb done this time and the upcoming week I will paint atleast one more.
What´s left as single models are 4 Bw/Ps (I use same models for both), 7 Wb and 1 Kn.
I also have a bag of random Bge-models but will not paint them at this time as I already have painted Bge for the Gepids. There are also a handful of casuality-models, but since DBMM doesn´t use them I will leave them be for a while aswell. To be honest, that probably goes for the 4 bows too since they kinda don´t fit into the army points-wise.
After these are done I am at a bit of a crossroads;
I can use my Gepids at ~300 pts and am not to far off getting them to 400, but don't really enjoy playing them. I could make them into Early Germans (2/47), a more enticing army. Easily done as I have STLs for javelin-throwing Ps and already have a bunch of painted Cv. The points-count will however go down a bit, which means I would have to paint more Wb.
Or... Start a new army!
I really like the Skythian Massagetae (1/43), both from a modelling perspective as one of the cooler things in wargaming is hordes of the same troop-type filling my side of the battlefield. In this case LH.
Looking at the list, Massagetae seems to be the more gamey choise giving me all generals as CvS aswell as 4-12 LH->CvS. Being able to field a 24-element block of BwO is something I kinda like aswell and together with a block of AxO or HdO they could hold down the center while I play Benny Hill-music on the bluehoof-speaker and deny my opponent from charging my LHF on the flanks.
The army spills nicely into book 2-gaming aswell looking at the Enemies list, this kinda tells me they hold their own against most of the stuff in the book.
The other option I have been eyeing for the same modelling perspective are the Alan (2/58). The meme-worthy "play in any era apart from biblical against natural enemies"-army.
They have LHS instead of the Skythians LHF which makes the fast contingent of the army beefier, however instead of Cv they have KnF which is always an issue with PIPs for me. Probably alleviated quite a bit compared to the Gepids since I don't have to deal with other impetious troops here.
BdI and PsO makes up for the rest of the army if you want to use them.
All in all, a lot less gamey and more punishing for making mistakes with.
The models I have in mind are really, really cool tho....
I also managed to get the 10-man squad of Chasseurs Ardennais for May -40 98% done, waiting on a nice reddish-skin highlightcolor and need to put down a few tufts on the bases. The are in the cubbard and I won´t be ashamed of putting them on the table as is tbh.
WIP are 8 light mortars with crews for the belgians and I´m just about to clean some flash off some more Gepid Wb.
Cheers!
